Living in NYC, I’ve come to accept the variety and even the oddest walks of life. Well, I thought that some people were odd until I dug deeper and learned about my inner likings. I’m talking about the bondage stuff. Funny, I had no idea this was my thing until recently. Today I’m covering a site called Collarspace.com. It’s one of the BDSM dating sites I’ve tried.

I’ve used many different types of dating sites in my years and I’ll admit, sometimes I feel like boring, vanilla sex and sometimes I crave something a little less, shall we say, normal.

My Collarspace Review 

Of course, normal is subjective. But, for me, when I’m craving some kink, it usually falls into the category of BDSM. And no, I don’t mean the whole ‘50 Shades of Lady-Porn’ type of BDSM, but legit bondage, dominance, and sadomasochism. I won’t delve too deeply into what I enjoy in the bedroom in that regard, that’s nobody’s business, but sometimes I just crave it rough.

When I’m feeling a little more frisky than normal, I tend to check out BDSM sites that I haven’t used before just to see what new folks I might stumble across. One of these sites I recently gave a try is called Collarspace.com.

Don’t let the name completely creep you out. Yes, Collarspace is a fetish site, but it isn’t associated with anything illegal or waaaay out there. If you’ve tried any other fetish dating sites like Alt.com, Fetlife.com, or Fetster.com, then you’ve pretty much been exposed to similar things.

I’ve used those sites, and they’re great, but sometimes I want to open up my options and see if anyone new is local to me instead of spanking the same old people. But, how does Collarspace.com stack up to the bigger fetish dating sites? Well, here is what I found in my time trying out Collarspace.

First Impressions

Let me start my review with this warning: When you land on the Collarspace.com website, you’re most likely going to be like, “What the hell year was this made?”

Trust me, I get why you’re saying that. Collarspace looks like an old-school dating site if I’ve ever seen one. But what do “they” always say? You know the “they” I’m talking about; the ones that say all the wise things, but nobody has ever met “them.”

“They” say: Don’t judge a book by its cover. And with Collarspace.com, you shouldn’t. The simple design of Collarspace may give you pause, but is shouldn’t dissuade you from joining this large fetish community.

Signing up

If you want an easy dating site sign-up process, Collarspace.com has it. After you’ve provided your username, email address, password, and location, you’re a member. That isn’t the only information you’re going to have to give them, though, and you shouldn’t expect it to be.

Collarspace.com will also ask you for the following:

• Height
• Weight
• Gender
• The gender you’re looking to meet
• Age
• Ethnicity
• Role (Dom, sub, switch, etc.)
• Who you’re looking to connect with (Single, couple, etc.)

Once you’ve provided those details, you’re going to start seeing some matches and the good news is that since Collarspace.com is a free site, you can connect with anyone that strikes your fancy.

This does not mean you can get away without a proper profile about yourself. This is a huge pet peeve of mine and I do not know how anyone joins any dating site without creating a profile for themselves. How in the world do you think you’re going to get matched with anyone or that anyone will want to contact you with a blank profile?

The answer is: They won’t. Especially women. Women are much smarter than us men and they want to know about someone before they waste their time contacting them, and they often won’t just contact someone who can’t be bothered to talk about themselves even a little bit.

For the love of all that is good and pure, take some time to make a profile and include all the important information, especially what you’re into and even what you aren’t into trying. You can add in other mainstream things about yourself, too, but since it’s a kink site, you should make sure those points are definitely included. It really just saves everyone from awkward situations and wasted time.

Member Photo’s and Meeting Up

One of the big perks of Collarspace is that they allow kinky photos and videos. I saw some things that were a huge turn-on, and well, some things that weren’t for me. At all.

But, hey, they may be something you’re into, so don’t be afraid to watch the videos that other members post. And, you never know, they may be a match for you.

Once you’ve poked around on Collarspace a bit, you’re going to want to search for the match or matches for you. I would recommend you be very honest with what you’re looking for in your search because the people of Collarspace.com are serious with their kinks. If anything makes you uncomfortable, don’t agree to it or even search for it.

Now, one problem I had with this site is that if a member isn’t active, they’re still listed as a current member. That means you have to watch how long its been since they’ve logged in or you’re going to be sending messages to people that won’t respond.

Pros and Cons

If you’re considering joining Collarspace, here is a breakdown of what I think are the good and the bad points:

• Pretty much no holds barred (except illegal activities)

Cons

• Incomplete profiles
• Abandoned profiles
• Mass marketing blows up your inbox
• Lots of ads
• Free dating sites mean no real policing and annoying members

Final Decision…

Are you someone who is experienced in kink? Or, are you the type of person just dipping your toes into the kink waters? Maybe you’ve tried other kink dating sites and want something new.

Whoever you are in the kink community, I think you’ll enjoy using Collarspace.com. Yes, it looks dated. Yes, there are incomplete and abandoned profiles. And, yes there are going to be a lot of messages in your inbox for advertising.

However, if you can overlook the few warts that Collar Space has, I think you’ll enjoy what the site has to offer to the kink community.
